Injury Prevention Programs

Our goal is to serve as Central Illinois' leaders and experts in childhood safety and injury prevention.

Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death to children. We play a major role in advocating for children's safety and well-being.

Injury Prevention provides education and annual activities to build awareness of and support for children's issues throughout the community. Our staff and committee provide a variety of programs and events that impact the well being of children in our area.

Our coalition is led by Children's Hospital of Illinois and focuses its efforts on Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties. Many community organizations are active members of Safe Kids Peoria Area and use their expertise to promote safety.

Children's Hospital of Illinois hosts monthly car seat fitting stations in Peoria, East Peoria, Pekin, and Washington to provide child passenger safety education. Safe Kids Peoria hosts several car seat checks throughout the summer in different neighborhoods. The coalition also increases public awareness by leading pedestrian safety efforts, such as International Walk to School Day.

We are always interested in adding local businesses and community members to the coalition. Please join us for our coalition meetings quarterly (January, April, July, and October).
