Fetal Heart
Doctors recognize that children with certain congenital heart defects can experience more positive outcomes if the problem is diagnosed in utero. In that case, care can be planned for both mother and child. Our goal at the Fetal Heart Program is to provide the most advanced cardiac care and to support mother and child every step of the way.
Our Fetal Heart Program is the only one outside of Chicago, Illinois to be Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) certified.
The Fetal Heart Program is unique in that a dedicated, multidisciplinary team cares for every expectant family. Each patient benefits from the expertise of our pediatric cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and social workers, all working hand-in-hand with our maternal-fetal medicine specialists. Our goal is to plan for any possible anticipated contingency before every baby is born.
The Fetal Heart Program was created to offer every resource expectant families could need, including expert evaluation and diagnosis, delivery planning and newborn care after birth. Here, families have access to the most advanced treatments available from specialists who are both expert and caring.
One additional unique feature of our program is the care provided to mothers who are survivors of congenital heart surgeries. Pregnancy can be a vulnerable time for mothers with CHD. This illustrates our center’s ability to offer a continuum of care with all needed specialists, including our adult congenital cardiologists managing the stresses of pregnancy on the mother with CHD. As a result, women and their families receive excellent care and support as they face concerns regarding cardiac abnormalities in both the mother and unborn child.
