(Peoria, IL / August 4, 2016) – Children’s Hospital of Illinois ECLS Center (Extracorporeal Life Support) received the Designation of Gold Level Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) Award for Excellence in Life Support. The award recognizes ECLS programs worldwide that distinguish themselves by having processes, procedures and systems in place that promote excellence and exceptional care in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

Extracorporeal life support is used in infants who are sick due to breathing problems. It provides the oxygen needed while the baby’s lungs and heart rest or heal. The ELSO Award of Excellence is recognized by the U.S. News and World Report as one criterion for top institutions.
